About Morningside
Bandol is a little gem on the Cote d’Azur between Marseille and Toulon. It’s a working town, with a beautiful port, a lively market every day in the town square and enough restaurants and bars to not have to eat in the same one (unless you want to!) for at least a month. Morningside, or CôtéMatin as it’s called here, is a set in a quiet cul de sac and only a five minute walk to the heart of the town. With its own swimming pool and safe enclosed back garden you can relax around the pool or spend a morning or afternoon at the beach - so it’s a great choice for families with young children or a group of friends. There are 4 bedrooms, including two on the ground floor - 3 double rooms and 1 children’s room with bunk beds. There is an open plan living and kitchen space and large utility room. Outside: Sunbeds, dining table and 8 chairs and waterproof bean bags all available. OUTSIDE Outside: Sunbeds, dining table and 8 chairs and waterproof bean bags all available. Location and Map
This marker is for indication purpose only
The beaches are safe and sheltered and all have lifeguards in the peak season. There are some lovely shops along the sea front and some of the best ice cream parlours in the south of France.
There is plenty to do in the area – take the 5 minute ferry to Isle de Bendor (the home of Ricard Pastis) and walk around the island, visit the art gallery, swim off the rocks or take in a lunch at one of the beach restaurants. Take a boat trip along the famous “Calanques”, the stunning cliffs that lie between Bandol and Marseille. Visit the many Bandol vineyards – Bandol has its own microclimate and AOC and produces excellent whites, roses and some of the best and most expensive red wines in France.
In summer you can try waterskiing, banana boat and donuting or parasailing. There are plenty of schools where you can learn to scuba dive or just snorkel. The Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet for petrol heads is 20km away – far enough so you can’t hear it at all but can drive up if you want to watch a race. Only 5 minutes out of town is the Dolce Fregate golf course, one of the top courses in France with one of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe.
For the kids (and adults!) there is Aqualand in nearby St Cyr sur Mer with over 11 wicked water slides for everyone to enjoy. And of course there are lots of places to explore – Les Gorges du Verdon, the perched villages of Le Castellet and La Cadiere (think Russell Crowe in A Good Life when he helps out as a waiter in the restaurant – they really are like that!). And within an hour’s drive you have Marseille, St Tropez and some of the best known resorts in Provence.
Distances: 50 km Marseilles, 17 km Toulon, 86 km St. Tropez, 160 km Nice, 70 km Aix-en-Provence, 140 km Gorges de Verdon, 140 km Arles, 170 km Nimes.
Getting there – you can fly to Marseille and rent a car or take the airport bus to Marseille station (St Charles) and pick up the train to Bandol. The train runs twice an hour and takes 40 minutes. Morningside is a 5 minute walk from the station in Bandol. Or you can fly to Toulon – Ryanair do flights from Stansted. If you fly to Nice you can either rent a car or take the train along the coast – a beautiful, sedate route along the coast which will take just over 2 hours. And for the first time from May onwards there are DIRECT trains from St Pancras in London to Marseille St Charles so you can do the trip in only six and a half hours.
Toulon/Hyeres airport 35 minutes, Marseilles airport 55 minutes, Nice - Cote d'Azur airport 90 minutes, Nimes airport 90 minutes by car. Bandol station is 5 minutes walk from the villa and is 40 minutes from Marseilles St. Charles Station and 18 minutes from Toulon Station. Direct trains from London St. Pancras: 6 hours 30 minutes to Marseilles St. Charles. Bandol is 10 hours drive from Calais Eurotunnel exit.

We had a lovely week at Morningside!
We had a lovely week at Morningside - and whilst we made good use of the local beaches and restaurants we also had one or two day trips to Cavalaire (fabulous beach) and Cassis (the Calanques). There were just four of us (two couples) as the others were caught by the UK travel restrictions - and the villa was perfect for us (might have felt a bit crowded with 7/8 adults). And a special mention to the neighbour - who took us wine-tasting and was a great support when there was a problem with one of the cars - many thanks!
