Lorgues

Lorgues is an authentic medieval Provencal village. Famous is the main street with its plane trees, beautiful coloured houses, fountains and various terraces. Lorgues' weekly market is every Tuesday and is one of the largest in the region, there are several good golf courses within easy reach, and tennis courts in Lorgues, many interesting places to visit and numerous good restaurants. The local shops in the attractive, ancient market town of Lorgues provide a good variety of fresh foods as well as newsagents (English papers available), banks, supermarkets, gift shops, clothes and shoe shops, florists and pharmacies.

The local market on Tuesday has everything from fresh foods to local provencal products, clothes, gifts, bric-a-brac etc; there are other markets in nearby villages most days of the week. Nearby restaurants include the renowned Bruno's (famous for his truffle dishes) and the Chateau de Berne as well as many less gourmet but excellent smaller restaurants, bistros and bars.

Vineyards abound in the region and most have retail outlets where wines can be tasted and bought direct.

Saint Tropez is under 1 hour's drive but other closer beaches are at Ste Maxime and St Raphael. Alternatively, swimming and other water sports at the Lac de Ste Croix approx 30 mins drive, close to the spectacular Gorges du Verdon.
