Menton

Menton is one of our favourite spots on the whole of the French Riviera - and that's saying something! Also known as the Pearl of France, Menton is the country's most south-easterly town, practically straddling the Italian border. You are as likely to hear Italian being spoken here as you are French and in some ways, Menton does feel more Italian than French.

The microclimate of this chic town allows for a great variety of plants to flourish and, in particular, citrus. There are a number of lovely gardens, both private and public that can be visited, particularly Les Jardins de Menton. The verdure has prompted it to have been said of Menton that, 'Ma ville, c'est un jardin'. (My town is a garden).

Menton is a town where culture vultures will find several interesting museums and exhibitions, especially La Muse Jean Cocteau and the Severin Wunderman Collection. But when taking a breather from culture, there are fabulous views, great restaurants, the vieux port and the vieille ville to be discovered.

Another good visit would be to the Halles, which is the main covered market. Here, you can find just about everything you could possibly need!
