About Villa St Paul De Vence
Villa St. Maxime, in Saint Paul de Vence, is a contemporary six‑bedroom villa set in extensive private grounds just beneath the medieval ramparts of Saint‑Paul‑de‑Vence, one of the world’s most famous art villages and a discreet hideaway for politicians and celebrities. From the terraces and the large private pool, you look out over the Loup valley towards the Mediterranean, with the old village just a short walk above you.
Tall hedges and landscaped gardens enclose the pool, pétanque court and wide terraces, creating a rare feeling of privacy so close to the village. It is approximately a 7‑minute walk into Saint‑Paul‑de‑Vence for galleries, cafés and dinner, and an easy stroll back to the quiet of your own property.
Inside, Villa Saint Maxime is filled with light and natural coolness from pale stone and Carrara marble on the floors and walls. A dramatic retractable glass roof and thoughtful architectural details give the central living area an almost “on the deck of a ship” feeling; there is even a telescope to scan the horizon and look out towards the Mediterranean. The style is contemporary and comfortable, rooted in Provençal character rather than formal hotel luxury. Over the years, the villa has quietly hosted politicians, actors, directors, writers and composers seeking space, light and discretion.
On the lower level, a cosy home‑cinema area provides a private space for movie nights and relaxed time together after a day by the pool or in the village.
The house offers six ensuite bedrooms (two suites, two sea‑view rooms and two garden‑view rooms), all finished to a high standard and fully stocked with linens, towels and essentials.

The property is best suited to adults and older teenagers and is not suitable for small children.

Since the 1870s, this area has drawn many of the world’s greatest artists and performers. Painters such as Cézanne, Monet, Van Gogh, Braque, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Renoir worked and lived nearby, followed in the 1950s by French stars like Simone Signoret, Yves Montand and Jean‑Paul Belmondo, and Hollywood names including David Niven, Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum and Cary Grant. More recently, figures like Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Rod Stewart have all spent time here.
You can still feel that history today. The legendary Colombe d’Or restaurant displays original works left by painters in lieu of payment, while photos of past guests line the walls. The region is filled with galleries and museums, including the Fondation Maeght in Saint‑Paul‑de‑Vence, the Matisse chapel in nearby Vence, and dedicated museums to Renoir and Picasso within easy reach by car.

Superb modern villa on the edge of the beautiful village St Paul de Vence, which was an easy 5 minutes walk up to. The facilities are fantastic - huge pool, lots of space to relax (we were a group of 9 including a small child), a good kitchen (we had a chef with us who enjoyed the indoor kitchen and outdoor grill). All the bedrooms were spacious, en suite, comfortable beds, all with AC and all private (with outdoor areas). The team were very responsive and the house was cleaned mid week. If you want to be close to the best village in the South of France, with amazing restaurants just a short walk away, look no further. Could not improve on a thing!

Beautiful setting, walkable to St Paul de Vence
This is a beautiful property, with a large swimming pool and gardens for relaxing in addition to outside spaces. Our room was on the small side but comfortable; with a side view over the hills from a small patio. The village is a 15-minute walk from the property making access easy.

Spectacular Stay at the Villa
This was our third visit to the villa. Each time it gets better and better. The accommodations are amazing and the villa is right outside the village walls. An easy walk to get to the town. We loved every minute of our stay and can't wait to go back.

Magical place!
I was fortunate to return to Villa St Paul de Vence and found it to be the same beautiful, elegant place that I have visited before. It is a gem of a place with splendid views of the hills and the sea in the distance. Sitting on the lovely terrace above the inviting, huge swimming pool while enjoying breakfast is one of its many wonderful features. Each of the six rooms is different and there is a spacious common area on two levels with marble floors, large glass windows, and doors leading to the terrace. It is hard, really, to leave this enchanting place but nearby is the lovely hilltop village of St Paul de Vence, many restaurants and a couple of museums.
