About Chateau Bonnieux

Located right at the bottom of the village of Bonnieux, it has formal gardens of 1 hectare and is even surrounded by over 20 hectares of vineyards that are owned by the domaine itself. It has been beautifully converted from a manor house, the chapel of which date back to the 14th century.

The exteriors include; a welcoming courtyard, several terraces both open and shaded, a summer kitchen, several fountains and water features, a 20 x 8m heated pool, a tennis court, a steam room, a boules court and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside which feature the Luberon hills and Mont Ventoux.

The interiors reflect the grace of the old, with stone walls and floors, dark wood, beamed ceilings, magnificent fireplaces, some fine antique furniture, leaded windows and stone staircases and the best of modern amenities; the Sonos sound system both inside and out, the home cinema, the fully equipped kitchen complete with range, the underfloor cooling/heating and the robust Internet system.

Le Luberon covers around 600sqkm and comprises of three mountain ranges, the highest peaks are around 1,250 metres high. Most of the area falls within the protection of the Parc Naturel regional du Luberon and is rich in both fauna and flora. The scenery is sometimes breathtaking and extremely diverse and includes; pine and oak forests, lush vineyard filled valleys, rolling hills, garrigue, lavender fields [of course], a desert [believe it or not] and boasts some of the most enchanting villages in France.

From the perched hilltop villages in the Golden Triangle, including; Gordes, Bonnieux, Goult, Oppede, Lacoste, Rousillion and Menerbes, to the vibrant town of L`Isle-sur-la- Sorgue, made famous for its Sunday brocante market and antique shops. Whilst other gems include, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, the source of the river Sorgue and the beautiful Southern Luberon village, of Lourmarin, with its lovely Renaissance chateau.

The region is famous for the quality of its wine, food and very relaxing lifestyle, which is probably the reason why so many writers, in particular, have made it either their home, or wrote so eloquently about it. From Samuel Beckett to Albert Camus, from Marcel Pagnol, who wrote, Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, to the more recent, Peter Mayle with his evocative best selling series, including A Year in Provence.
