Lac de la Cavayère

Lac de la Cavayère offers a tranquil spot almost at the doors of Carcassonne. The lake is a natural space extending over more than 40 hectares just a few steps away from the bustling town.

Situated at the entrance to Carcassonne the lake is surrounded by woods and garrigue, the natural landscape of Mediterranean France. Cavayère is known as the green lung of Carcassonne, the ideal place to spend a lazy day with the family.

There's a nice beach and picnic area and you can hire pedalos for on the water. There's also mini-golf and beach volley-ball. If you wish, you can walk around the lake (it will take about an hour) and you'll discover a surprising diversity of landscape and interesting little ecological finds as you pass from cool shade into bright sunlight. In the centre of the lake is an island dedicated to nesting ducks and other species.
