About Villa Sainte Anastasie

The Villa is situated 0.5km from the village of Ste Anastasie sur Issole, it is approached via a lane (chemin) which runs through wooded hills laced with vineyards and is a 10 minute walk. The hillside setting of the villa is tranquil and uncrowded; ten or so villas nestling amongst the trees. It is approximately midway between Marseille and Nice airports and 35km from the coast. The Villa is 15 minutes to the south of Brignoles and 25 minutes north east of Toulon.

Ste. Anastasie is an unspoilt area; it has amenities such as a general store, boulangerie, newspaper shop, restaurant and a bar serving lunchtime food and evening food during July and August. There are 3 restaurants, a bistro, bar, pizzeria and 2 supermarkets close by.

There are similar villages a short drive away, all are worth a visit. Besse sur Issole (3km) is especially good. It is famous for its numerous fountains and Var's very own version of Robin Hood.

It is close to Ste. Anastasie, has four restaurants, three bars, a takeaway outlet as well as a market each Wednesday. Markets are a big feature of the Var, from Lorgues in the north to St. Tropez, they are prolific. All villages have beautiful churches and welcome tourists to attend mass.

OUTSIDE

The villa lies within its own fenced and gated grounds. There is ample parking, no need to worry about space for any guests. Three terrace areas are available, all substantial enough to feel uncrowded.

Apart from the top terrace, there is an area outside the entry which this is handy for times when shade is required; and there is the pool terrace which is lit up in the evening for guests to mingle over a drink or three.

The pool is 10m by 5m and has easy access steps. Palm trees and oleanders are planted around in the terrace. The rest of the garden is planted with species natural to the area - pines, olives and white oaks. A boules area and clothes drying area are also provided as well as patio furniture and boules. Sunloungers.

Entry hall - large area leading to the kitchen

Kitchen (cuisine) - a large area with traditional kitchen table. A gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, American style fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster and electric kettle are provided. French windows open direct onto one of the terraces for outdoor eating.

Utility room - with washing machine and spin dryer

Lounge/dining room (salon) - is a spacious L-shaped room with a central chimney incorporating a woodburning stove. Large dining table comfortably seating 8. The lounge has patio doors leading directly out to one of the terraces, follow the stairs down from this terrace to access the pool area with its substantial terracing. TV and internet.

3 double bedrooms - one has a kingsize bed and ensuite with walk-in shower, twin handbasins and WC. Two further double bedrooms, one with king-sized beds, one with a double bed.

2 family bathrooms- all bathrooms are newly appointed with walk-in showers, bidets. One bathroom also has a bath.

ABOUT STE ANASTASIE SUR ISSOLE IN VAR, PROVENCE-ALPES-COTE D'AZUR

LOCAL AREA
Quite frequently extravaganzas happen, such as fetes, evening music, pageants and special occasion open feasts; keep an eye out as they are well worth going to if you can. Travelling a little further, there are many historic buildings - Chateaux and Abbeys - which make a memorable visit. And further still there is the grandeur of the Luberon Valley, the Gorge Du Verdon (Grand Canyon) and the High Var/ Provence; all worth sampling on a day trip.

SURROUNDING WIDER AREA
The coast is about 45 minutes away, there are sandy beaches tucked away beyond large areas of woodlands and vineyards. Much of the coast is protected, typified by 40km of Sentier Litoral (green routes); so it is quite different to most of the Cote D'Azur. St. Tropez, Cap Bregancon, Plage L'Estagnol and Isle D'Hyeres are just some notable venues.

Further inland you encounter the Masse des Maures with its mixture of low mountains, wooded hills, sleepy villages and large vineyards. A walkers paradise, there are trails of every length imaginable offering superb views. This area actually starts near the villa with the peak St. Quinis and stretches right down to Grimaud near St. Tropez. The historic county town of Brignoles, home of the Counts of Provence, is 15 minutes away and offers a greater variety shopping outlets together with restaurants, cafes and bars plus a superb Saturday morning market.

CLIMATE
The Var is about the driest area in France, the S.E. gets the hottest weather as well. Expect very little rain from May to September and even though it can break maybe by mid September, it usually comes back warm and dry into October. Evening temperatures, even in July / August are not too oppressive as the Villa is at about 1000 feet above sea level, mosquitos are usually not a problem either. Winters are sunny with some rain, cold after sun down, no snow locally but there is plenty an hour away to the north in the Southern Alpes.

Local activities include golf, horseriding, wine tasting at local domains, hiking or gentler walks along easily accessible routes across the foothills of the Maures. There is a tree adventure park and kid's bike park nearby.

Ski stations and ski villages are within 2 hours both in the High Provence and Alpe Maritime.

HOW TO GET TO VILLA

Many guests drive, making an overnight stay part of the vacation along the way; however, for those wanting get down in a hurry, Marseilles, Toulon, Avignon and Nice airports are all handy. A mixture of Easyjet, Ryanair and B.A. etc have flights to these destinations. The TGV is also relatively near, Aix en Provence station is about 45 minutes away.

Further Information

The villa is non-smoking and there is a smoke alarm: forest fires are guarded against avidly, it is a legal requirement that we ask smokers to be extremely careful if participating outside; use an ash tray and make sure all ends are extinguished, not just thrown down.

The place is not really suitable for very small children or those who have difficulty negotiating stairs. As the stairs are stone, we would advise children should be over the age of 6 for their own safety. There are 2 cats at the villa.

Due to the amount of steps at the villa it is not ideal for wheelchair users and preferably for children over the age of 6.

Gravelled area for boules - equipment provided.

The pool is open from early to mid May - please check with us for exact dates.
