About Martinets Gite
This 18th century, three storey town house is ideally situated in the centre of the busy town of Olonzac, the delightful capital of Langeudoc’s Minervois region, and provides very comfortable and spacious self-catering accommodation (60m2) which is perfect for a couple or up to three people.
The house is full of character and benefits from a number of stunning original features which have been sympathetically restored. It was thoroughly renovated and refurbished in 2007, providing all the modern comforts one expects whilst complimenting the property’s original charm.
You enter the property directly into a generous open-plan kitchen and living area which has a large dining table with seating for four. The fully-equipped new kitchen has a large fridge-freezer, cooker, microwave, washing machine, and plenty of storage space. There is also a WC on this floor.
The property’s dramatic centrepiece is a spectacular original staircase with ornate banisters. You will also see many other period details throughout the house, including exposed beams and original shutters.
On the first floor is a light and airy sitting room with a traditional working fireplace which can be lit for open fires in the cooler months. There are two sofas, one of which can be made into a comfortable double bed. The TV has English-speaking Satellite channels including BBCs 1 and 2 and BBC News 24, plus a DVD player. Music CDs, DVDs, books and games are also provided.
On the next floor is the spacious master bedroom, with high ceilings, exposed beams, and an elegant metal-framed bedstead. The beautiful blue mosaic-tiled double shower is the highlight of the generous shower room next door, which also has a WC and basin.
All rooms have electric heating for the winter months, and logs can be provided for the open fire for a small charge.
There is no garden with this property however from the second floor there is an open staircase leading to the small private rooftop terrace with a barbecue.
The perfect spot to relax and unwind, this sun trap hideaway offers spectacular views across the rooftops and church spires of Olonzac and, on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Pyrenees.
There is an abundance of swifts, swallows and house martins to watch in spring and summer.
There is free parking just one minute’s walk away.
Easy parking only 15 metres from house(no reserved places)

OLON101 - PREVIOUS GUESTS' COMMENTS:"Lucy -our contact - was most helpful and professional." - John (2012)VISITORS BOOK COMMENTS2011 SeptemberWe are enjoying it here very much. We think that ‘Les Martinets’ is the best equipped gite we have stayed in over the years. We have found lots of walks near and far and some good restaurants. All together a fine place to be.2011 AugustWe have had a wonderful time in the Languedoc and particularly enjoyed our stay at ‘Les Martinets’ which we found to be very comfortable and relaxing. Olonzac is a great base for exploring the area – our favourite places were Minerve, and Homps where we discovered a wonderful restaurant, 'En Bonne Compagnie'.2011 FebruaryA lovely restful week! The house is lovely – the weather was cool so we lit the log fire in the evening and just snuggled up! Loved the market – fabulous fresh meat and vegetables and a lovely friendly couple selling fresh coffee, flavoured “infusions” and cocoa’s. Recommend a drive to the coast and definitely over the mountains - breathtaking scenery and views.2010 OctoberA great couple of weeks in Olonzac. House was all we hoped for, very comfortable. Great shower and liked the roof terrace - very nice sitting up there with a glass of wine in the evening. Olonzac is a lively place for its size and has all the facilities you need for a holiday. The ‘Bel’ restaurant is very good – (Great Sunday lunch!) as is the Auberge de St. Martin at Beaufort.2010 SeptWonderful base for exploring the delights of the area. Great house with everything you could wish for.2010 AugustWe had a fantastic holiday. The house was perfect, very well equipped and great position to explore the local area! We especially loved the Tuesday morning market and filled the fridge with delicious goodies! – Bon Vacances!
