The little hamlet of La Manière was founded during the reign of Louis XIV who gave land to start a silk factory. Some of the original mulberry trees planted to feed the silkworms are still in existence. Les Calades was the first new house to be built in the hamlet since the 18th century.
If you have kids who love exploring then this is the place for you! With grounds of 6 hectares, a little pine forest, swings and games, kids will adore this house. Grown ups will enjoy trying their hand at boules ('pétanque') on the floodlit boulodrome.
The owner is a sculptor in metal so you will see his works throughout the house and garden.
There are various hidden areas where you can sit and soak up the sun, from the covered terrace to the swimming pool area which is completely surrounded by trees making it exceptionally private.
There are lots of walking and cycling trails near the house leading out into vineyards and natural garrigue. Around La Manière alone there is 80km² of paths through the vineyards.
Views towards the Pyrenees on a clear day.
There is also a covered patio with barbecue for al fresco dining.
You'll find lots of flowers and fruit (cherries and plums) to pick in season. The owner is happy for you to sample the products.
Lots of books to while away the hot afternoons - both in English and French.
DVD's to watch in English and French and Jazz CD's.
