Maison des Lierres is situated in the centre of the lovely village of Cabrières d'Avignon, where there are several good restaurants including the bistrot famously mentioned by author Peter Mayle, as well as a baker, a butcher and a small grocer's shop. There is an excellent farmers' market selling fruit, vegetables, flowers and wine in nearby Coustellet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The enchanting nearby villages of Gordes, Menerbes, Fontaines de Vaucluse are an absolute must to visit if you are seeking to experience the essence of Provence. And don't miss the pretty village of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, with its canals, narrow streets and antiques market.
For a change of pace, the wonderfully vibrant and historic town of Avignon is just 20 miles away and would make an ideal day trip. This French townhouse villa in village centre is ideal if you want to make the most of the local restaurants and cafés in the evenings without having to drive home afterwards, adding an important extra element of relaxation to your holiday.

The house has got a great atmosphere and is ideal for outdoor entertaining, with the table just outside the kitchen door in the shade of the plane tree and the pool beyond, just across the lawn. Another huge advantage - you are in the middle of the village yet you have complete privacy within your lovely walled garden. A bonus of this village is its bread shop - truly amazing, you must try it! Fifty metres from the house is the well-known restaurant “Le Vieux Bistro”, just by the church - where the TV film of Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence was partly filmed - and there is a new restaurant in Coustellet just down the road, called WO Sushi, which may be worth trying. But an absolute must is Maison Gouin. This family-run business comprises restaurant, butcher and delicatessen, all organic. Best of all is that when you have dinner or lunch here you are invited down to the cellar to choose your own bottle. Coustellet is also famous for having the best farmers’ market in Provence: this is held on Sundays and not with the tourists in mind, and so is a truly Provencal experience.
