owner profile

We are Lisa and Derek and we have been living in Marseillan for over 10 years now successfully operating our self-catering holiday villa and apartment. This keeps us very busy in between occasionally sampling the local beverages!
I am retired from business but keep very busy running our bookings and maintaining swimming pools etc. Lisa works part-time locally as a guide/ interpreter for a well known winery here.

We first came on holiday to Marseillan in 1995 and fell in love with its timeless French charm and the beauty of the surrounding countryside and beaches etc. Marseillan Ville is a picturesque, unspoilt old harbourside village located on the Etang de Thau (a sea water lagoon on the Mediterranean) famous for oysters and seafood. It is often likened to the St. Tropez of 50 years ago! The Canal du Midi starts at Marseillan, originally built in the 17th century to transport the abundance of local wines to the Bordeaux/Atlantic Region of France. You may have seen Marseillan featured on Chef Rick Stein's recent TV series where he travelled down the Canal sampling the local culinary delights here!

Our Villa, ‘Belles de Mai’ with its own private pool, and our entirely separate Garden Apartment 'Beau Jardin' (Ref MARS105) also with its own private pool, are located right on the vineyards, 300 meters from the Lagoon, 1 km from the Port and 3 kms from the long sandy Mediterranean beaches which run between Sete and Cap d'Agde. Both properties are within easy, level walking distance alongside the lagoon to the village centre and harbourside restaurants etc.

There is an excellence choice of sailing and water sports available in Marseillan alongside the famous flamingos! The well-known international marina and top-class golf courses of Cap D'Agde and Beziers are also nearby.

Customer Reviews

A fantastic relaxing week, mostly spent at the poolside and the beach. Weather very good and interesting selection of restaurants in Marseillan. Thoroughly enjoyable !
We stayed in the apartment for 2 weeks in July this year (2010). The apartment was beautifully presented and well equipped so that if we didn't want to go out we were very comfortable. The pool was wonderful and exceptionally clean.
Marseillan Port is beautiful, with a good amount of restaurants available within an easy 15 min walk. Derek and Lisa make you feel very welcome and have a wealth of local knowledge to offer if you wish to ask them about anything. This peaceful location is ideal if you're looking for a relaxing break away from everything. Fabulous apartment, lovely peaceful location, 5 out of 5!
We have stayed in Marseillan Ville before and enjoyed lazy afternoons sipping wine on the harbour in this beautiful little fishing port. This property is not directly in the center of the port town but it is only a short 10 minute walk away, along the stunning Lagoon - 'Etang de Thau'. The walk is along a completely flat path which is well lit at night. The property was ideal for a couple and was very clean with a BBQ terrace outside. The pool was a nice size and totally screened by high hedges in the lovely garden.
Compared to the UK Marseillan Ville was lovely, sunny and warm. We left thoroughly relaxed and in good spirits - a wonderful little hideaway and a great break from city life. Emily and Adam
Lizzie and I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you both for making our Honeymoon a very pleasant and enjoyable event. The property was well equipped and the grounds and pool were beautiful, which provided us with everything we were looking for in order to relax. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we hope to return at some point in the future with either friends or family to stay in your other Villa. We will also recommend your properties to anyone looking to explore the South of France.
    Regards and Many thanks !!

Just returned from a lovely week. Villa is well appointed, has everything you need and is close enough to the pretty port of Marseillan whilst still being a peaceful and relaxing location. The owners are very helpful and accommodating but not at all intrusive. Would highly recommend this villa.
This is a very pleasant. clean and well equipped 3 bedroom Villa, ideal for families and couples alike. Everything was supplied in excellent working order and the owners who are very helpful and pleasant are on hand to deal with any enquiries quickly and efficiently. Marseillan is a lovely little town with some very good restaurants and bars, especially around the port, and the whole area is great for those who like water sports, boating and sailing. A very long and sandy beach is nearby.

  • "Superb villa - quiet location - wonderful - 5 of 5 Stars
What a lovely villa and quiet location. Our family of 5 were met by Derek, although we unknowingly met his wife Lise earlier in the day at Noilly Prat in Marseillan. The villa was as described in a very quiet cul-de-sac location about 20 minutes walk along the beach front from the lovely town of Marseillan. Derek showed me around the villa and went through the various facilities available - all equipment is totally up-to-date and there were also lots of fans available as it was very hot - although the villa also had air conditioning which automatically came on from early evening. Derek advised us to lower the shutters to the south-facing windows during the day when we went out to lower the temperature of the rooms when we returned. The villa had a BBQ which we used using a variety of ingredients from the local butchers, bakers and vineyards that we found. The pool was a little cold at first, but enabled us to cool down and relax either in the mornings or after coming back from a long day out.

The town of Marseillan is very pretty and is only a 20 minute walk along the beach from the villa. There are lots of excellent restaurants around the small harbour all serving excellent locally caught seafood. We also enjoyed the cafe-style culture of just people watching at local restaurants in the town with just a coffee.

We went to a variety of local towns as well as driving to the hillside town of Carcassonne, however we would recommend going to Pzenas, which has a lovely historic centre. We also tried a number of wine tasting sessions, however the best we found including a through tour of the vineyard and domaine at Domaine Saint Hilaire about 30 minutes drive from Marseillan.
Overall, our family had a wonderful time and found the villa very relaxing after a long day sight seeing. "

  • "Recent 1 week stay in lovely house in Marseillan. - 5 of 5 Stars
This property was perfect for us; 2 small families, allowing us both privacy and plenty of room for eating, sitting around and watching TV/films etc, as well as the pool area (sunny) and barbecue, outdoor eating (shaded).
It is equipped with everything you could need and was immaculate.
We rented bikes ; the house is a short distance from the cycle route to either Marseillan or Marseillan Plage, and being on the edge of town is lovely and quiet.
Derek had recommended car hire and we rented a car from Beziers Airport for 2 days and went to the Pont du Gard, which was fabulous including a swim in the river. We went to Sete, Agde and Cap d'Agde. The beach at Cap d'Agde was more sheltered than Marseillan Plage and we swam a bit more there.
In retrospect we think we should have hired a car for the full week, though being August the roads and car parks were busy. It was easy getting around on the bikes but limited where we went.
The only downside to the whole week was the temperature of the sea (and the pool) but we think that was because it had been particularly windy.
Derek and Lise were helpful and friendly, both whilst we were there and through the booking process. "

  • "Perfection in the Sun on the Med
    5 out of 5
From the moment we arrived and seeing the Garden Apartment and meeting the owners, Derek and Lisa, we knew we were in for a grand holiday. The apartment and grounds, including the lovely large swimming pool were first class. Very high standard and well maintained. Everything worked - which is a change! And you could tell, speaking with Derek, that keeping the property and grounds to a high standard was important to him. The apartment and surrounding area was quiet and within an easy flat walk along side the Etang waters too the lovely port village of Marseillan. We spent two weeks at this excellent Garden Apartment and already plan to return.
Our son and his wife and two small children rented - at the same time as us - Derek's other villa which was just opposite our Garden Apartment. This villa was also excellent and has its own swimming pool. Both properties were gated and well secure. For our son and his family, this was important to keep the children within the grounds of the villa.
It is hard to think of any minus points to include in this review, and we cannot imagine anyone not enjoying this rented property and of course the port village of Marseillan. This was our second visit to Marseillan and it certainly will not be the last."

    "Lovely apartment in good location
    5 out of 5
We've stayed in many self catering places in France and in our view this was one of the best - bright and well equipped, plenty of outside space and great location. It was very hot for the whole week we were there, so we spent a lot of time in leisurely lunches on the spacious shady terrace, cooling off every now and again in the pool. The sunloungers were extremely comfortable. In the evenings we strolled into Marseillan, a pleasant 10 minutes away along the lagoon. We were surprised how nice it was - a bustling little harbour with a good choice of restaurants and shops but without the crowded feel of the big seaside resorts. There was plenty to see in the area - Sete, Cap d'Agde, the Canal du Midi, a trip into the vineyards, and a real highlight was the VIP evening tour of the Noilly Prat works in Marseillan hosted by Lisa. We've brought back a bottle - together with happy memories of our week in Marseillan. "
