Discover Toulon, Hyeres & Saint Tropez

Sail boats and luxury motor boats in the colourful bay of the old town in St Tropez on the French Riviera.

This westernmost area of the world famous French Riviera will make you day-dream of golden sand beaches, clear azure waters and white coastal coves. Well known for attracting the world’s jet-set for decades long, this is the spot to see and be seen. Have a stroll on the sunny seaside boulevards, shop for world’s most renowned and exclusive brands, sip a coffee in one of many bars and simply enjoy the vibe. Whether you yourself, own one of those fancy yachts in the marine, or if you just like spotting the most beautiful one you can find, this postcard-pretty coastline is the place to be.

From the military city of Toulon in the West, home to one of France’s biggest naval bases, to glamorous St. Tropez in the East, this region is always vibrant and lively. The coastline is dotted with some of the most photogenic villages in the area. Beautiful Hyères is known to be France’s first resort, experienced throughout the years, and with a perfectly preserved old city this is still one of the regions favourites.

Things to See and Do in Toulon, Hyeres & St. Tropez

Beaches

The best beaches in this area can be found around Saint Tropez and Sainte Maxime. St Tropez is famous for Pampelonne beach, which is a long crescent beach that has attracted the rich and famous for years. Popular smaller beaches on the cape are Plage de Tahiti and Plage des Salins. Past Sainte Maxime you'll find another large beach, the popular Plage de la Nartelle, and further yet is Les Issambres.

Beauvallon is a charming village that can be reached by ferry from St Tropez. Enjoy the change of pace and appreciate the beach and restaurants.

If you're looking for a seaside resort with sandy beaches and chic beach cafés, we recommend Le Lavandou where you'll also find a busy market and a marina, and La Favière.

There are plenty of great locations in this area for watersports enthusiasts. There is an excellent scubadiving centre in Bormes les Mimosas.

Towns & Villages

Apart from the main cities and towns, of Toulon, Hyeres & St. Tropez, there are many other worthwhile places to visit. These include:

  • Bormes les Mimosas, a pretty flower-filled village, with old churches and historic buildings as well as markets and a musuem and art gallery.
  • Cogolin, with two golf courses nearby and a man-made beach, Cogolin Plage, 10 minutes away by car: a great place for sailing.
  • Port Grimaud - "The Venice of Provence" - is a must-see location. Purpose-built in the 1960s it's reminicient of Portmerion in the UK but with a French Riveria twist. No cars are allowed in the town itself so it's a safe and quiet place for walking and soaking up the atmosphere in this quite unique place.
  • Sainte Maxime, where there is something for everyone: water sports, forest walks, an open-air theatre, a casino, boat hire, and lively sea-front area with some great restaurants and bars are all packed into this pretty town typical of this area of the French Riveria.
  • Beauvallon

Restaurants and Bars

One of our favourite bars in this area is the Bar du Port in St Tropez.
