Steam train through the Pyrenees

For true puffer buffers, kids, grown-ups and everyone else in between, Le Petit Train Jaune up in the Pyrenees would make a great day out. This is a real train service operated by the SNCF.

Le Petit Train Jaune de Cerdagne, often known simply as 'The Canary', is so well-known and well-beloved that it has become an icon of Catalonia. It links Villefranche-de-Conflent (427 m) to Latour-de-Carol (1232 m) on a journey of 63 km. The highest point is La Bolquère (1500m), the highest station in France.

The Yellow Train Railway was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century to link the high plateaux of Catalonia with the rest of the Department.

The line crosses magnificent mountain scenery and is a real feat of engineering with 19 tunnels and two important bridges - the Séjourné Viaduct and the Gisclard bridge (80 m over a precipice).
